Kano Wins Top Gong At First Annual Rated Awards


EAST LONDON rapper Kano was honoured with the Legacy Award at the first annual Rated Awards last night (Sept 17).

The entertainer, who rose to prominence with his Home Sweet Home album in 2005, won the most prestigious gong on the night, which saw also saw winners including south London duo Krept and Konan (Best Project) and Bugzy Malone, who was awarded with the Best Breakthrough gong.

The award was presented to Kano by south London rapper Giggs at his request following a video tribute to the star and his career.

Taking to his Twitter account this morning (Sept 18), the 30-year-old thanked fans and grime blog, GRM Daily, who produced the event in association with drinks company KA.

“Proper good times last night,” he wrote. “Thank you for all the love, support and respect. Hold tight @grmdaily for the 2015 GRM Legacy Award.”

Capital Xtra DJ, Manny Norte, who hosted the event with presenter Claira Hermet, was one of the first to heap praise on the star.

The Rated Awards is a “brand new music award ceremony to celebrate and recognise the best of British urban talent.”

The winners were voted for by the public and a select industry panel “to give recognition to one of the UK's most vibrant music scenes”.

“The idea is simple: to create a new annual music awards, voted for by the fans,” an organiser said.

“The awards saw a host of urban music descend into London, promising to be one of the most important nights in the urban music calendar.”

Krept tweeted a pictured of his award, Krept, of Krept and Konan fame, with the caption The Long Way Home - the duo’s record-breaking debut.
