Chelsea are set to tie-up a deal for former AC Milan goalkeeper Marco Amelia today after he passed a medical at Stamford Bridge, according to reports.

Jose Mourinho’s side are short of cover between the sticks following an injury to Thibaut Courtois, 23, and the Portuguese coach wants cover.

Amelia, who has nine caps for Italy and was in their 2006 World Cup-winning squad, is a free agent and was invited to train with the Blues earlier this week.

The deal will be completed today, according to the Daily Star, who say the 33-year-old is expected to sign a short-term deal in west London.
