Drone crashes into prison carrying blades, crystal meth and a large bag of cannabis

A drone carrying a huge cache of drugs and weapons has crash-landed inside the Oklahoma State Penitentiary.
The remote controlled flying machine clipped razor wire and then tumbled to the ground.
It was carrying a package containing a large 5.3 ounce bag of weed, which would be worth about £1,000 in Britain.
Prison officers also found 0.8 ounces of crystal meth and about one gram of heroin, as well as a pair of hacksaw blades and a mobile phone.
"I applaud and commend the quick action and diligence on the part of the staff who noticed the UAV [drone] entered the prison grounds,” said Robert Patton , director of the Oklahoma Department of Corrections.
Most of the 900 prisoners inside Oklahoma State Penitentiary are held as maximum security inmates.
The fearsome prison also houses several death row convicts and has its own execution chamber.

This year, more than 10 drones crashed into British jails in just six months.

Last month Glyn Travis, assistant secretary of the Prison Officers Association, warned: “The use of drones to evade security has reached an all time high.

“It is an extremely worrying development as drones are inexpensive, easily accessible and you don’t have to be a fighter pilot to fly one.

“They are used to transport contraband or as reconnaissance vehicles, looking for weaknesses in security.

“At a time of cost cutting and reduced staff numbers, it is hard to deal with this new threat.”
