Egyptian-Muslim peace activist calls for an end to "biased" reporting on Israel

In a surprising shift from the posts we're used to see coming out of Israel-Palestine these days, an Egyptian Muslim activist posted a video on his Facebook page this week calling for the media to end “dishonest reporting” on Israel.

In it, Ahmed Meligy—who occasionally writes for the Jerusalem Post—sits in front of an Egyptian flag and an Israeli flag as he criticizes various mainstream media outlets for an alleged anti-Israel bias.

The clip has amassed over 42,000 views so far—he describes how he loves Egypt, his home country, and how he feels a true sense of belonging there since the 2011 uprising against former president Hosni Mubarak. He goes on to explain the presence of the Israeli flag, stating that the media’s handling of the current violence in Israel/Palestine has driven him to say that “Israel has the right to be recognised." He targets the BBC and the Washington Post for reports on violence which he claims do not convey the Israeli side of the story in an ubiased manner.

He expresses his anger for headlines which, according to him, put more emphasis on the Palestinian attackers who are killed than on the victims of their attacks.

The video has garnered support from many on social media, with numerous pro-Israel pages and profiles sharing it on Twitter and Facebook.
