Farmer Bags 6 Months Jail Term Over Assault

A Magistrates’ Court in Kirikasamma, Jigawa, on Wednesday sentenced a 29-year-old farmer, Ibrahim Abubakar, to six months imprisonment for assaulting an Immunisation Officer.

The Police had dragged Abubakar to court on a-two-count charge of assault and obstruction of duty, when he beat up an immunisation officer, Muhammad Adamu.

The Prosecutor, Sgt. Salisu Dalhatu, said the case was reported to the police by some local health officials after the suspect assaulted their staff at Marma ward of the Kirikasamma Local Government Area.

The prosecutor said that the accused person beat up the immunisation officer after he administered Oral Polio Vaccine (OPV), on his daughter.

The accused, however, pleaded guilty to the charge and pleaded for leniency.

In his ruling, Magistrate Bashir Adamu, said the court had found the accused person guilty and sentenced him to a jail term of six months in prison, with an option of a N10, 000 fine, according to Sections 148 and 263 of the Panel Code. (NAN)
