The US college gunman who killed at least ten people before being fatally shot in a stand-off with police was originally from the UK, it was reported.
Chris Harper Mercer asked his victims if they were Christian before opening fire.
The 26-year-old, whose social media profiles featured content supporting the IRA, apparently demanded to know his victims’ religious beliefs before opening fire at Umpqua Community College in Roseburg, Oregon.

He is said to have been born in England before moving to the States as a young boy, according to reports in America.
One source told The New York Times: ‘He appears to be an angry young man who was very filled with hate.’
Authorities, who initially refused to name the gunman, shed no light on his motive and said they were investigating.
Heroic student
Army veteran Chris Mintz was shoot five times as he charged the shooter in a bid to take him out.
The 30-year-old was taken to hospital following the massacre at Umpqua Community College.
His cousin Derek Bourgeois told DailyMail.com: ‘I was told he went after the shooter.
‘There was no way he was going to stand around and watch something this horrific happen.’

Several people remain injured in hospital.
The college was on lockdown and more than 100 police officers including dog units from Portland were checking the college for booby traps and other explosives.
